When I lived in Eugene, Oregon Saturday mornings were my shopping day. It wasn’t unusual for me to begin at 9:00 with a trip to the farmers’ market in downtown Eugene, where, during the summer months, I could find those luscious leeks, ravishing radishes, baby beets, and even wild mushrooms on occasion — all picked early Friday evening or Saturday morning.

You know what I wonder while reading your piece is that those people who criticize for eating locally (which is difficult here other than strawberries) saying it is too expensive, is how many of them eat out on a regular basis? If they stayed in half the time they could have better food with better ingredients for probably around the same price than that $8 or $9 cheeseburger and fries at Chili’s.
